Amador Rojas

PLACE OF BIRTH: Amador Rojas was born into a family of gypsies in Los Palacios, just outside of Seville, Spain. STUDIES: At the age of 7 he met the Maestro Farruco, who began to actualize him as a dancer.

CAREER: By the age of 12 he is performing as a soloist, from conception he has a pioneering vision of flamenco and begins to create his own choreography.

At 16 he joins his first dance company with Salvador Tavora where he tours the world in the theater production of “Carmen” for five years.

At 21 he becomes a soloist and forms part of “Eva Hierbabuena” Dance Company. He quickly captures the attention of the “Godfather” of flamenco, Antonio Canales, who to date has included him in his past five productions as a guest artist.

In 2008 he goes on to form his own dance company where he inaugurates “Kahlo Calo”, a production that portrays the life of the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo through flamenco. This production received several prestigious dance awards such as the 2008 Bienal de flamenco “Artista Revelacion”.

In March of 2009 he launched the award winning debut “Mandala” in Spain where he receives “la Venencia Flamenca” award from La Mistela.

He toured alongside Lola Greco and Enrique Morente in “Fedra” directed by one of Spain’s most celebrated directors, Miguel Narros. In April 2010 he debuted in Los Angeles for the first time as a soloist with great success where he receives The Golden Lyre Musicianship Award. He made a tour for United States, Europe and South America.

Rojas is referred to in Spain as “a volcano that remembers Lola Flores and Carmen Amaya”, Rojas is widely recognized for his mesmerizing presence and genius choreographic style, swiftly becoming one of Spain’s foremost flamenco icons.

FESTIVALS: Bienal de Flamenco de 1998, Bienal de Flamenco del 2008, etc.

AWARDS: Best New Artist Award at the 2008 Bienal de Flamenco, Award “The Venencia Flamenca “2009, Golden Lyre Musicianship Award 2010.
