flamenco Singer

Luis Moneo

Although now he is focused in singing he is also a good guitarist. In fact, he has played a lot to his brother El Torta and he has become known in the national scene.

NAME: Luís Moneo Lara, Luís Moneo

PLACE OF BIRTH: Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), 1961

FAMILY: The Moneo de la Pazuela, one of the most emblematic families of singers in Jerez.

CAREER: Although now he is focused in singing he is also a good guitarist. In fact, he has played a lot to his brother El Torta and he has become known in the national scene.

He is one of the greatest surprises of the flamenco from Jerez of recent times. Everyone knew him as a guitarist but one day he decided to leave the guitar and star singing. Now he has passed the baton to his son, Juan Manuel Moneo, a young guitarist who is working hard in the Company of Antonio el Pipa and with his uncle. He started singing to the dancers, he spent a lot of time in the Company of Antonio el Pipa and, later, in others from artists such as María del Mar Moreno or Los cuatro elementos, Andrés Peña, and María José Franco among others.

His voice has an innate echo and flamenco character from one of the oldest lineages. Luis Moneo doesn’t have a solo album but he has collaborated in Luminaria by the guitarist Juan Diego from Jerez with who also collaborated in the seguiriya “Fuera de Razón”.

The most important thing about Luis, known by his family as Pepe, is the Moneo-Lara flamenco link, full of expressive possibilities. His voice remembers to Manuel some times, others to Torta, his uncle Pacote…but with an added value, a remarkable tuning of the voice thanks to his wide knowledge of the guitar. He starts his solo career and a lot of flamenco groups and festivals invite this interesting singer from Jerez.
